"You can not know what light is if you have never experienced darkness". -Unknown

Many people gasp in horror (well maybe not horror, but they don't like it) when they see cards like Death, the Devil and the Tower. And understandably so, I mean, LOOK AT THEM!
The Grim Reaper, fire, destruction, chains, I mean, I get. It's terrifying. But people are usually very surprised when I say that these cards can be some of the most exciting and life changing cards in the whole tarot deck. I look at things this way: if you are getting wonderful beautiful cards like The Star, The Sun, and other cards that are traditionally looked at as "good cards", there is nothing to do. Nothing needs to change. But when you get cards like the Tower, Death, and the The Devil, they force you to look at yourself and your situation and come to some hard but honest realizations. Let me show you what I mean.

The Devil
Now The devil is talks about about lies, addiction, vices, materialism and over-indulgence. What are the benefits of this card? Well one thing I like about the devil is that it serves as a warning in may cases. It can be a warning not to become too obsessed or too concerned with what is on the surface. Another thing the Devil can represent is lust, and in some situation and surrounded by right cards, it can mean AMAZING SEX. Oh yeah, I said it. That good good! And most people LOVE to hear that (The Devil in the Gilded Tarot looks like he should be in Magic Mike so thinking about that Devil in a sexual situation isn't hard).

Death
And we have now arrived at my favorite card in the whole tarot. Death! Ah look at that bag of bones. Scary huh? The way we view death in the Western World is usually in a way that is frightening and terrible. But honestly, for most spiritual people, we view death as the next frontier, the next phase or the next journey. Death is a transformation, a transition, usually onto another plain. When Death comes up in a reading, I usually let clients know that something is ending so that something new can begin. There is life after death, and amazing experiences waiting for us on the other side.

The Tower
I know what your saying, "How is she going to justify this one?". All those people screaming, jumping out of out of a burning tower, pretty bad right? Well let me explain. The Tower is all about destruction, disaster. a breakdown of beliefs and constructs. Now this can be traumatic for some but for others it can be a serious wake up call.

"Sometimes you just need to breakdown to have all the pieces you need to build yourself up again."- Unknown

Things usually break down for a reason. Maybe you weren't managing things very well to begin with, or maybe you have been trying to keep up with an illusion that needed to end for your well-being. Either way, the things that are meant to breakdown were not things that were working for you. Look at The Tower as a blessing from Spirit. As hard as it is to know a storm is coming, take solace in the fact that storms never last forever.

What are some of your takes on these cards? Let me know!
